Romantic charity winning wedding at Owston Hall Hotel in Doncaster – for Louise and Karl

Romantic Charity Winning wedding at Owston Hall Hotel in Doncaster for Louise and Karl.

When as a photographer you get an phone call from Hallam FM’s cash for Kids team asking if you would consider offering your services on their 2016 Win Your Wedding competition you can’t really say “NO” and whilst you feel pride in helping such a good cause there is also trepidation as you don’t know who the winners will be, you don’t know when the wedding will be, and you don’t really know if you are the right fit for them as a couple. Well this happened to us, we took the call, we agreed as it was the right thing to do and we waited, then the competition was won and I was contacted by the winning couple, and guess what we knew them, and we liked them and all was good in the world, plus they raised over £16,000 for Help a Hallam Child! Fast forward 16 months and we got to capture their special Alice in Wonderland themed wedding day.

Louise and Karl got married in July at the gorgeous Owston Hall Hotel, which is an understated venue in Doncaster. They had their ceremony in the main hall, which was great, because having everything in one venue meant more time for drinks. They chose Owston Hall, because it’s where they always wanted to have their wedding and they just fell in love with it. It was a Alice in Wonderland themed wedding, which was fabulous as it was so personal to them as a couple. I love shooting weddings at Owston Hall, because the grounds are so gorgeous and the staff is just incredible. Owston was one of the first venues I worked at as a photographer.

Louise got ready in the Bridal suite with her maid of honour Jeanette and her and Karl’s twin girls Heidi & Freya, and the atmosphere was full of excitement. The girls were their usual fun selves and kept everyone happy. Karl got ready at home with his best man and arrived at Owston in a vintage confetti car. The girls then walked together to get to the ceremony. Heidi and Freya nearly stole the show walking down the aisle however this was over taken by Louise who looked utterly stunning.

The wedding itself was an intimate affair in a beautiful room at Owston Hall. During the ceremony they had a beautiful reading. It was so emotional. and you could see what it meant to Louise and Karl to have, Louise’s brother Andrew read it for them.

The reception was in the ballroom and they the vast gardens for photos in the afternoon, and a visit from Alice and the Mad Hatter rounded the day off. in the evening. a live rock band played for all of the guests. They decorated the venue with Alice in Wonderland items and they chose this, because it had a personal meaning to them. For dinner they served proper wedding grub, which was loved by all the guests. The first dance was to Ed Sheeran, and they finished off the evening with a huge buffet.

The best part of the day was the ceremony, because it was so romantic and personal. They also had a slideshow of their favorite moments together during the speeches – it was so personal!

Louise wore a fitted lace gown and Karl wore a traditional suite with a rustic waistcoat and they looked so gorgeous.

Louise and Karl met through their work and have been together for 5 years. They got in touch with me after winning the wedding from Hallam FM and their message was really touching. They said they wanted a photographer who would be like a guest, and I thought it was awesome that they seemed so much fun. Here are our favourite moments from their day.
